Tear Duct Surgery

Also known as Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy, the tear duct surgery is quite popular among adults. Tears are produced in the tear gland and by lubricating the eyes, tears play an important role in maintaining the eye health. When the eye is irritated, excess tears are produced and the tear film on the eye surface is a crucial constituent of maintaining the eye vision. Tears wash away the debris and fill up the surface.

If any disturbance is found in the tear film, patients are sure to experience the blurred vision, irritation, burning and tearing. This way, tear duct surgery might be the ideal solution, but only after attempting simpler solutions.

Enhanced Tear Production & Dry Eyes

Generally, the eye has 2 different set of structures that bring forth the tears. Little tear glands enable to keep a standard level of wetness on the eye surface. Alas, inflammatory conditions such as: Sjogrens disease and rheumatoid lead to reduced tear creation. As tear production decreases, the eye surface initiates to dry out. Plus, redness of the oil glands across the edge of the eyelid quite common among patients with rosacea can cause vaporization of the tear film. As a consequence, the dry eye becomes watery and patients with dry eyes face irregular tearing of the eyes when going outside on the stormy day, using a computer, watching TV, driving and reading. These all become the reason of the eyes to dry out as the eyes blinks little during the performance of these activities.

The procedure for dry eyes comprise of – replacement of tears with artificial lubricants, medicines like Restasis that boosts the natural tear generation to resume and then tear duct surgery.
